It was, and is, wonderful, because we always help each other out

In quarantine, daily routines have changed; for some they have even stopped altogether. What hasn’t stopped is the precious time that children and adults spend together, and which has shifted from the centre into the home. This way Lara, a young mother of 25 who attends the THSN partner CSB Onlus centre in Trieste with her two-year-old son Ares, can keep in touch and keep sharing advice and ideas with the other mothers and the teachers at the centre.

I feel less alone, both as a mother and as a person

Being able to rely on the teachers at the THSN partner L’Albero della Vita centre in Genoa was vital for Oriana while she was at home in quarantine with her two-year-old son. They recommended activities and gave advice on how to deal with the more difficult moments. As a result, she now feels less alone, as a mother and as a person.

It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind

Despair, and a deep loneliness that was already there before 14th of March is now much greater, and much more difficult to bear for the vulnerable families. This is what Felipe, who leads THSN partner ITACA activities in the outskirts of Barcelona, says about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In cities that were built to be consumed and not to be lived, what these families and their children need most is information, help to cover their basic needs but also psychological and educational support.

Vulnerable families are in a worse situation than before, and we wish to stay on their side

Even in the post-lock-down period, the needs of the vulnerable families are the same, but their situation is getting worse day after day. That's why Laurent, who leads Intermèdes Robinson activities in the southern Parisian region, says: 'We could not stop our activities. On the contrary, we had to multiply them. We focus on the essential needs: food, basic hygiene materials, and products for babies.'
