Venice Lost and Found

At a London flea market, photography enthusiast Matteo Bortolin stumbled upon the negatives of over 100 photos taken in Venice in the 1960s. The unknown author immortalised a Venice that today appears to be undergoing transformation, with people and environments that reflect a balance between past and progress, far from the current tourist frenzy. This is how Venezia Lost and Found, the book published by Kellermann Editore, came about and is being presented at The Home of The Human Safety Net. The images are accompanied by the engaging text by Alberto Toso Fei, which opens the volume, offering a reflection on the passing of time and the constant change of a unique city. For his part, Manfredo Manfroi attempts to investigate the possible identity of the mysterious photographer and completes the story by providing valuable details about the historical moment to which those photographs date back. The book invites us to look at Venice not only as a place to admire, but as a living organism that evolves, changing shape and identity through the ages. And among its pages, who knows, some readers may find familiar faces and situations they have experienced first-hand.
