On waters, rivers and landscapes, or the possible adventure

As part of the Involved! ReadingLab series of meetings, we discover the latest work by art critic and historian Enrico Gusella entitled “On waters, rivers and landscapes, or the possible adventure”, published by ARTonWorld: a book in eight chapters, introduced by an essay by Matteo Nicolini and Francesco Salvestrini. A narrative of texts and images that begins in the Middle Ages and the interventions of the municipalities in favour of water, recounts the entry of the Venetian rivers into the cities, recalls the dramatic “Mediterranean storm Vaia” of 2018, and focuses on the Venetian coastline with Cavallino-Treporti, but also with more evocative or unknown places such as the village of Lio Piccolo, through the images of Guido Guidi, Giovanni Chiaramonte, Franco Fontana, Fausto Giaccone and Marco Zanta. In closing, there is a tribute to two cities characterised by rivers, lagoons and water: Verona, which stretches along the Adige River, among squares, castles, Roman ruins, bell towers and hidden treasures, and, as a counterpoint, Venice, with a tribute to the city, recounted by photographer Elio Ciol, who accompanies us through the streets and squares, St Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace, the lagoon and the sea and, between fiction and reality, with Ca' d'Oro overlooking the Grand Canal, an emblem of Venetian wisdom and the arts of a great city.
