The MovieLab series continues: curated by Francesco Della Puppa, sociologist and lecturer at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, this third edition of the programme – ‘Transformative Visions: Perspectives on the Possible’ – is held under the patronage of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. On 17 March, the programme features the 2025 film My Birthday by Christian Filippi, a film inspired by the director’s first-hand experience of the world of care homes for young people. It tells the story of Riccardino, who is about to turn 18 in the care home where he lives. He has been separated from his mother – a woman with severe personality disorders – for four years. Despite the caring and attentive guidance of his social worker, who wants a safe future for him, Riccardino decides to run away to find his mother and live with her. His illusion will soon turn into a bitter reality. After the screening, the director, who will be in the auditorium, will take part in a discussion with Giuseppe Angelillis, a social worker, lecturer at Ca’ Foscari University and author. All screenings in the MovieLab programme are accredited by the Order of Social Workers of the Veneto Region.
