The first event of 2027 in the MovieLab series, curated by Francesco Della Puppa, sociologist and lecturer at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, now in its third edition: “Transformative Visions. Glimpses of the Possible’, under the patronage of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. This time, the narrative takes us to a boxing gym in the heart of a rough neighbourhood in Havana, where the owner, the Italian Samuel Fabbri, provides a safe haven to keep young people off the streets. Teenagers like Haiffer and Adrialis are encouraged to dream big, both inside and outside the ring. This lively yet dilapidated space reflects the tensions in Cuba, whilst the team prepares for a crucial match against a more modern gym, which could turn their fortunes around or mark the end of Samuel’s twenty-year struggle. Following the screening, the screenwriter will join Tommaso Kusch from the Sant’Elena Association and Giulia Capocorda from the Zenobia Association for a discussion in the auditorium. All screenings in the MovieLab programme are accredited by the Order of Social Workers of the Veneto Region.
