Finding common ground on migration
On 17 June, as part of Refugee Week Italia, The Home of The Human Safety Net will host a debate organised in collaboration with the Institute of International Affairs (IAI) and Second Tree. The discussion will focus on migration, addressing two key aspects: on the one hand, the need for greater mobility – economic and demographic for our country, and humanitarian for those who migrate – and, on the other, the polarising effect the issue has on public perception and the consequent duty to take this into account. The common goal is to gather new ideas that help harmonise strategy and communication across all sectors to build common ground on migration, with the shared aim of making migration legal and safe. Migration is, in fact, an issue that affects everyone – institutions, local authorities, the business sector, research, and the third sector – each with a different mandate and different ways of operating. This makes it necessary to foster and support dialogue among all stakeholders to build a shared strategy and solution together. The debate, which will be moderated by Giovanni Fontana, President of Second Tree, will feature participants including Alessia Di Pascale, lecturer at the University of Milan, Camilla Orlandi, Head of Migration at ANCI, Andrea Pecoraro, Senior Associate at UNHCR, and Marco Simoni, Director of the Institute of International Affairs.
