Future Literacy
Wednesday, May 13, 4:30 p.m.
For Elementary School Teachers
A workshop for elementary school teachers on “Future Literacy,” defined by UNESCO as “the new literacy of the 21st century.” Future Literacy concerns the ability to gather information, develop one’s own ideas, defend one’s dignity, manage uncertainty, imagine different types of futures, and create—as a legacy of the present—a future of value and “human quality.” Futurist Mario Cusmai then guides teachers in exploring new educational frontiers aimed at spreading the culture of Future Literacy and combating early school leaving. Through the development of innovative educational activities, Cusmai aims to stimulate critical and creative thinking about the future, emphasizing sustainability, social responsibility, curiosity, perspective, teamwork, hope, relational intelligence, leadership, appreciation of beauty, humility, and kindness. The goal is to empower students, teachers, individuals, organizations, and communities to distinguish between different possible futures, because the challenges awaiting us in the coming decades will require citizens who are increasingly aware and capable of making important decisions.
