Film Screening for Schools
An extraordinary screening for primary and secondary school students of the film directed by Yasemin Samdereli in collaboration with Deka Mohamed Osman, based on the novel by Giuseppe Catozzella, winner of the 2014 Strega Giovani Prize. The film tells the true story of Samia, a Somali girl with the dream of becoming the fastest woman in her country. She will achieve this, thanks to the support of her father and her coach Ali, making it all the way to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where at just 17 years old, she will represent her country. However, nothing will be easy. Samia will have to fight against religious fanaticism and the guerrilla warfare that ravage Somalia, and she will discover that crossing Europe is, unfortunately, an impossible task for many.
