Generali ‘Future Owners’ team up with The Human Safety Net to drive five social innovation projects

Sustain & Grow is a six-month innovation journey involving 30 talented staff members around the world

Participants in Generali’s ‘Future Owner’ leadership development programme have combined their talents and creativity to support three of The Human Safety Net partner NGOs in finding solutions to become more financially sustainable, as well as designing two innovative new social products tailored to vulnerable people in society.

The Human Safety Net, in coordination with Group Talent Management, has developed Sustain & Grow, a six-month innovation journey involving 30 talented staff members around the world, as part of the Future Owner programme. Over a period of six months, the participants worked in teams on five social projects as part of the ‘Sustain & Grow’ incubator.

Its aim was to get participants out of their comfort zone, giving them new experiences to develop their soft skills and lifetime partner behaviours, while also creating value in the communities they live in.

Last week, the five teams presented the results of their work.

One team designed an inclusive insurance product for the Serbian market, which will be funded by local municipalities, offering health insurance to vulnerable families with young children. A second team designed an inclusive insurance product to support refugee entrepreneurs in Germany.

A third team developed a business strategy that streamlines, consolidates and increases revenue streams for SINGA, The Human Safety Net’s NGO partner in the For Refugee Start-ups programme in France.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, a fourth team of participants created a sustainable business model that generated revenue via a parenting app, called First6Years, belonging to ACEV (Mother and Child Education Foundation).

And finally in Italy, a team of participants put together a business plan to increase revenue streams for the For Families programme NGO partner Centro per la Salute del Bambino (CSB) by extending its early childhood development expertise and services to private companies.

In 2022, Sustain & Grow’s second edition will be launched, building on the success of the first, with a further round of innovative solutions for NGOs and Generali Business Units to be created by talents from across Generali Group.

Furthermore, The Human Safety Net will expand the collaboration with key functions, such as Investments, Innovation and Human Resources. In particular, this will mean continuing to advise and monitor impact investments as well as scouting social enterprises to identify new value-drivers and sources of growth for the Group.
