Through the role on the Advisory Board of the European Alliance for Financial Education (FIN.e), The Human Safety Net highlighted its commitment to empowering people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed decisions and build resilient futures.
Europeans are facing increasingly complex financial choices, from saving and investing to retirement planning and the use of digital financial services. At the same time, stronger financial literacy is essential to support personal well-being, resilience and broader economic participation across Europe.
The newly established European Alliance for Financial Education (FIN.e), founded by the European Investment Bank Institute, ActionAid Hellas and Aflatoun International, aims to bridge the gap between policy and practice by connecting more than 4,000 financial education practitioners across Europe. The initiative provides a platform to share evidence, strengthen capacity and ensure that lessons learned on the ground inform European and national policy discussions.
For The Human Safety Net, participation in FIN.e is closely aligned with its mission of unlocking the potential of people living in vulnerable circumstances. Throughout its work with families and refugees, the Human safety Net has seen how access to practical knowledge, skills and opportunities can help individuals gain confidence, navigate uncertainty and create stronger futures for themselves and their communities. Supporting financial education is therefore part of a broader commitment to inclusion, empowerment and social mobility.
A particular focus of the initiative is ensuring that high-quality financial education reaches those who face the greatest barriers to financial inclusion, including young people, women, migrants and other underserved groups. The statement emphasizes that financial education should be evidence-based, measurable and continuously evaluated to deliver meaningful outcomes for citizens.
Through this engagement, The Human Safety Net contributes to a growing European movement that seeks to make financial knowledge more accessible, practical and impactful, ensuring that more people have the tools to make informed decisions and participate confidently in society and the economy.
