Co-created by The Human Safety Net and the Van Leer Foundation, this year’s edition focused on parenthood as a transformative experience and on the influence parenting has during children’s earliest years. The theme connects directly to The Human Safety Net’s For Families programme, which supports families at risk of social exclusion with children aged 0 to 6 by strengthening parenting experiences and creating early learning opportunities.
This year also marked an important step in the development of Lights! Camera! Impact!. The initiative moved closer in connecting cinema and social impact. One concrete example is a fellowship launched by The Black List and co-funded by The Human Safety Net, the Van Leer Foundation, Equimundo and the American Institute for Boys and Men, supporting writers developing stories around parenthood and early childhood.
By bringing together those who create stories with organisations working directly with families, Lights! Camera! Impact! helps us to explore how cinema can help change the narratives through which we understand parenting, childhood and the experiences that shape our earliest years.
