2022 THSN Ambassadors launch their year with a two-day Hackathon

Committed teams of volunteers from all around the world gather together online to plan the coming year’s fund-raising and awareness-raising activities

Solidarity never sleeps! The Human Safety Net’s Ambassadors from all around the world gathered together online in a global two-day Hackathon to plan and kick-start their volunteering activities in 2022.

The Ambassadors are 500 Generali employees and agents from 23 countries who have committed to amplifying The Human Safety Net and its projects in their communities for one year in addition to their day-to-day roles.

The Ambassador teams discussed volunteering initiatives to be implemented at both national and local levels in their countries over the coming year, as well as international events such as the next THSN Global Challenge taking place between 28 May and 12 June. They also brainstormed additional fundraising events to support the foundation’s projects globally, as well as communications activities to raise awareness among other Generali agents and customers.

The Hackathon included a panel discussion with Emma Ursich, Executive Director of The Human Safety Net, and Monica Possa, Group Chief Human Resources & Organization Officer, moderated by Yves Carbonnelle (The Human Safety Net’s Global Head of Engagement), to deep-dive Generali’s commitment to support the communities where it operates and celebrate the role of Ambassadors.

The global virtual get-together proved both fun and useful for the new Ambassadors. “It was fun to come up with ideas and plan the year with our teammates during the Hackathon. It made me extra excited for the coming events to contribute to our community!” commented Queenie, a THSN Ambassador Reporter based in Hong Kong. Heri, a THSN Ambassador Fundraiser, added: “The German team had a great, inspiring, and very productive Hackathon.” And Hristiana Borova from the Internal Communicators team, commented: “So many people from so many different parts of the world with one mission – to help. I am happy that I am a part of this!”

With their energy and motivation, the Ambassadors Teams have proved to be a powerful force, making a real difference in their communities.  In 2021, there was a dramatic increase in volunteering for The Human Safety Net, despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In part thanks to the efforts of the Ambassador Teams, Generali volunteers contributed 35,000 hours of activities, a sharp contrast to global trends which saw volunteering hours fall sharply.
