Seize the opportunity, give time!

Lukas Fuhs, Sales consultant from Vienna, encourages his colleges to join The Human Safety Net

I've had a good life with many great moments. Now I want to give other people great moments, too.

The Family Mentoring Programme (FAME) of The Human Safety Net in Austria gives us as Generali employees the opportunity to offer a child between the ages of three to six friendship, joy of life, lots of time and unforgettable experiences. In the context of the program, Big Brother and Big Sisters, the partner of THSN in Austria, matches employees with a child for at least six months to unlock the potential of parents and children in vulnerable circumstances. At the beginning, I had doubts. I wondered whether I would be able to balance this with my private life and my job or if I would get along with the child. I can only say that it was worth it. Our match really fits perfectly and I can spend time with my little mentee, a five-year-old boy. Before Corona we did a lot of things together. We went to zoos, parks and amusement parks and always had a lot of fun. Even during this difficult time of social distancing we keep in touch, talk on the phone and skype with each other.

I would like to thank BBBS and THSN that makes this program possible and manages it in a way that makes it easy for me – for example with superb trainings and supervision – to be someone this boy can trust.

Giving my mentee attention, friendship and appreciation is not only an enrichment for him and his parents, but also for me. At the same time I want to take the chance to prepare myself for the future and maybe future children. My wish is, that the time I spent with my mentee has an impact on the boys development and lays the strongest possible foundations for his future.

Therefore, I appeal to everyone to take advantage of this opportunity: join The Human Safety Net, live great experiences and a wonderful time!
