My Path to Becoming an Electronics Technician in Germany
My name is Sahil, I left my home country of Afghanistan on 25 January 2022, and now I live in Leipzig. I’m training to become an electronics technician—a path that has been both challenging and rewarding.
Back in Afghanistan, I completed my A-levels before making the difficult decision to leave my home. I was fortunate to meet kind and supportive people right from the beginning. One dedicated volunteer, in particular, helped me a great deal, and I’m very grateful for their guidance.
I really like the German language. It’s not easy, but I enjoy learning it because it allows me to connect with others and be more independent in my daily life. One of the biggest challenges has been finding a place to live. I’ve been searching for over a year, and many attempts didn’t work out. But I remain hopeful—I might be able to move into my own flat soon.
Before I joined Joblinge, I didn’t know much about life in Germany—things like the laws, how to find the right training programme, or what rights and responsibilities I had. The workshops at Joblinge were a turning point. They gave me important knowledge about the world of work and helped me feel more prepared.
I received support with my application and was able to work on various construction sites for almost a month before starting my training.
Thanks to Joblinge, I received support with my job applications and got the chance to work on several construction sites for almost a month before starting my training. It was a great way to understand the work environment and build confidence.
In my current role, I am responsible for installing and maintaining security systems—everything from smoke detectors and motion sensors to telephone systems. I don’t have a fixed workplace; I travel to different construction sites with my team to install the technology. When I’m on call, I help maintain the systems we’ve already set up.
The Joblinge training sessions also helped me improve my German skills and gave me ongoing support. As I continue my training, I know I can always return to Joblinge for help or advice.
My first goal is to complete my training and become a skilled craftsman, gaining experience with my company. One day, I hope to start my own business. I’m also excited about being able to afford things I’ve dreamed of, like getting my driver’s license and buying a car.
