Unlocking family potential in Indonesia: supporting mothers, nurturing futures

In Indonesia, families especially mothers with young children, face persistent challenges that require focused support. According to Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), as of September 2024, over 24 million people live below the poverty line, many of them parents raising children aged 0 to 61. These children face greater risks of undernutrition, developmental delays, and lack of access to basic services.

Since its launch in Indonesia in 2018, more than 22,000 children and families have been impacted by our programs, an early sign of what’s possible when support meets resilience.

But behind every child is a mother doing her best. And that’s where our focus lies.

Aligned with The Human Safety Net’s global mission to unlock the potential of people living in vulnerable conditions, our program in Indonesia is dedicated to empowering mothers with children aged 0–6 years. In partnership with Ibu Profesional, a community-based learning forum for women with a presence in more than 56 regions across Indonesia, we provide parenting classes and workshops based on the A Home Team module.

The program’s core focus is on strengthening family resilience through parenting education, character-building for children, talent mapping, and financial literacy, particularly around insurance and future planning.

By equipping mothers with practical knowledge, emotional support, and community-based sessions, we empower families to shape stronger, more secure futures. Our program has reached hundreds of mothers across Indonesia, providing them with the tools and support they need to confidently guide their children’s growth and build resilient families.

Jarimatika (Yayasan Ibu Profesional)

In Indonesia, The Human Safety Net partners with Jarimatika (Yayasan Ibu Profesional), a community founded in 2011 in Salatiga to support women especially mothers, in their roles both at home and in society. Now present in 56 cities across Indonesia and 10 countries, Ibu Profesional is a driving force for family empowerment.

Together, we run the Workshop A HomeTeam program, focusing on parenting, character development, family planning, and financial literacy. The program equips mothers from vulnerable families with essential knowledge to manage their household finances wisely and plan for a more secure future.

As part of this collaboration, we also co-developed an educational board game that teaches financial literacy and family resilience in a fun and interactive way. This tool has helped deepen engagement and make learning more accessible for mothers and families across the country.
