We Rise by Lifting Others
Marinella Senatore for The Human Safety Net
We Rise by Lifting Others Is a social impact art project developed through a collaboration between The Human Safety Net and multidisciplinary artist Marinella Senatore. Conceived as both a collective experience and an exhibition, it uses the universal language of art to create spaces for listening, care and shared possibility, grounded in a core belief: we truly grow only when we support one another. The project unfolds as a participatory process addressing inclusion, resilience, hope and human potential.
Marinella Senatore worked with families at risk of social exclusion accompanied by The Human Safety Net and its partner NGOs Ta Szansa in Warsaw, the Istituto Casa Famiglia San Pio X in Mestre and the Centro per la Salute delle Bambine e dei Bambini, in Palermo. Through workshops based on movement, writing and storytelling, parents and children shared experiences and emotions within a space of mutual care, giving voice to a temporary community founded on listening and the value of each individual experience.
A community where vulnerability is meant not as a weakness, but as a source of new possibilities. These stories become the living material of the artwork on display. At the heart of the exhibition is a monumental luminaria, inspired by baroque candelabra and popular celebratory traditions, reimagined as a civic monument to mutual support. Alongside it, handwoven tapestries, created with the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, translate collective narratives into lasting textile forms.
