Community survey exercise in 12 villages in Ranchi, Jharkhand

Find out how community surveys helped in building connections with the beneficiaries!

As part of our project interventions, surveys were conducted in each of the chosen villages. Education facilitators, who are our on-ground team visited the villages to meet with the parents of the children enrolled at the Anganwadi’s.

As our project interventions are aimed at building the capacities of women and helping children develop through ECE interventions, this exercise was key in building a relationship with the beneficiaries. Our team conducted door-to-door surveys to map children that live across the village and to meet with children and families that are enrolled at the anganwadi. This activity was an opportunity for our team to introduce the project interventions to come like educational activities with the children, mother’s meetings and capacity building sessions. This also enabled the Anganwadi worker to enroll any children that may have been missed out or have recently reached the age of enrollment at the anganwadi. Child data imperative to our project interventions, like names, date of birth of children, contact numbers of parents was obtained during these visits.

Community surveys are key to help our teams get familiar with and know their way around the village and also develop meaningful relationships with the beneficiaries. This helps us to understand challenges that may arise, in coming to the anganwadi and at home, if any. Going forward, these visits will be conducted to provide timely updates on child progress and the various activities conducted at the Anganwadi’s on a daily basis. The relationship with parents will be strengthened during the project period to build the capacity of the parents. Conducting these visit helps overcome any barriers that come in the way of ECE for children in the selected villages.
