It is a joy to grow and transform together with my son

When I walked into the P. C. Lee OneSky Global Centre for Early Childhood Development with my 4-year-old son, Tintin, I recalled that he hid behind me yet curiously looked around, his eyes sparkling. Sometimes he wasn't willing to speak, but his smile always glowed like the moon. And I knew he liked the place. I shared my concern to the Centre's Family Mentors regarding Tintin's recent diagnosis of developmental delays. In addition, because of the pandemic, he hadn't had many opportunities to interact with peers or play outside. And I was aware that these activities are all crucial to reaching his potential. 

The Sham Shui Po area, where we live, lack safe and clean playing facilities. By attending the Centre, he benefits from unlimited support, including accompaniment, consultation and remediation by his devoted Family Mentor, Suki. Suki also worked with me and guided me on how to help Tintin express his needs and feelings more clearly. Working together, I have gradually witnessed Tintin transform from a quiet child hiding behind me to a lively, energetic boy greeting his Family Mentors courageously. 

I am both very happy and relieved when gaining support from the mentors. This also makes me more confident in taking care of my boy. Thanks to learning the OneSky Approach, I now have better interactions with Tintin and have learned the value of responsive care. It has been a joy to grow and transform together with my son.

Recently, Tintin participated in the sports day at his kindergarten. He tried really hard, but he didn't win any competitions. When he returned home, he told me how disappointed he was. Apart from his sadness, I was so happy that he could share his feelings so I could teach him how to manage his sadness positively and constructively. I explained to him that participating is more important than winning. So together, we made a medal to celebrate his participation.
