We are all going through this unique experience, and we need to find solutions together

When lockdown started Noémie and her team needed to “invent” new ways to maintain the relationship with the families they help at the family center. They managed to do this creating a What’s App group, ensuring families are regularly contacted and keeping on with the routine as much as possible, including celebrating birthdays. The Centre and Casa Zoe have become like a family to us

For Simona, coming to the THSN partner Mission Bambini centre in Moncalieri (Turin) is like being part of a big family: it gave her the chance to meet other mums and dads, to get advice on bringing up her child, and to share snacks, stories and games with her daughter. And she is pleased with the progress Greta is making.

It was, and is, wonderful, because we always help each other out

In quarantine, daily routines have changed; for some they have even stopped altogether. What hasn’t stopped is the precious time that children and adults spend together, and which has shifted from the centre into the home. This way Lara, a young mother of 25 who attends the THSN partner CSB Onlus centre in Trieste with her two-year-old son Ares, can keep in touch and keep sharing advice and ideas with the other mothers and the teachers at the centre.

I feel less alone, both as a mother and as a person

Being able to rely on the teachers at the THSN partner L’Albero della Vita centre in Genoa was vital for Oriana while she was at home in quarantine with her two-year-old son. They recommended activities and gave advice on how to deal with the more difficult moments. As a result, she now feels less alone, as a mother and as a person.

When Covid-19 pandemic hit Spain, Fundación Tomillo quickly realized that the families they assist needed extraordinary support both economically and emotionally. To better respond to their needs, they kept a continuous contact with families while asking them periodic feedback about the activities made. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind

Despair, and a deep loneliness that was already there before 14th of March is now much greater, and much more difficult to bear for the vulnerable families. This is what Felipe, who leads THSN partner ITACA activities in the outskirts of Barcelona, says about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In cities that were built to be consumed and not to be lived, what these families and their children need most is information, help to cover their basic needs but also psychological and educational support.
